Select Board approves school building committee charge, defers Atwood tank remediation

Southborough Select Board advances warrant articles for April 11 annual town meeting while deferring a costly school site remediation. The board voted unanimously to support the Trottier School roof replacement project (Article 15, with MSBA reimbursement at 41.32 percent) and approved the Elementary School Building Committee charge with a 3-2 appointment split between boards. However, the board postponed the $800,000 Atwood tank remediation article to fall town meeting, following presentation by Pare Corporation estimating a 5 to 10 percent cost increase if the project is rebid in August.
Meanwhile, KMS Actuaries reported the town's net OPEB liability jumped from $38.7 million to $54.4 million—a 40.6 percent increase—prompting the board to request Finance Director Brian Ballantine explore more aggressive funding approaches beyond current $250,000 annual contributions.
