Select Board Holds Joint Budget Summit; Schools Seek 8.98 Percent Increase

Southborough Select Board and Advisory Committee held a joint budget summit Saturday. Superintendent Greg Martineau presented a regional school preliminary budget of 8.98 percent over FY2026, driven by special education, transportation, and health insurance, targeting a final 5-7 percent increase. Southborough School Committee Chair Chelsea Malinowski's K-8 budget showed a 3.99 percent increase at level services.
Fire Chief Andrew Puntini and Police Chief Ryan Newell presented departmental requests. The FY2027 budget totals $74.8 million in expenditures against $73.6 million in available revenues, leaving a $1.16 million shortfall.
