Zoning Board approves Battery Energy Storage System at Cordaville Road.
Southborough Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of January 21, 2026
Southborough Zoning Board approves Battery Energy Storage System on industrial property. Acting Chair Michael Robbins and four board members voted 4-1 on January 21 to grant a special permit allowing Blue Sky Utility to install a 14.616 megawatt-hour BESS and vehicle charging station at 150 Cordaville Road alongside existing light manufacturing uses, with Jamie Mieth voting nay. The decision requires Fire Department approval and compliance with multiple safety conditions including an Emergency Response Plan, Hazard Mitigation Plan, and decommissioning agreement; no installation may proceed until the Fire Chief certifies satisfaction of these safeguards, which address concerns about toxic emissions and evacuation risks near retail and daycare facilities.
The board also continued a separate comprehensive permit hearing for 250 Turnpike Road to February 11 with a public hearing deadline extended to April 1.
